In 1786 Caswell County included both Caswell and Person Counties as they exist today. There were 8 districts. In 1792, after the formation of Person County, the four districts in Caswell were: Caswell, Richmond, St. David, and Gloucester. Those falling into person County were: St. Luke, St. Lawrence, St. James, and Nash. The 1786 census report is available for 3 of the 8 districts, Caswell, St. David, and Gloucester, all three of which fell into present day Caswell County after 1792.

William and Eleanor Brown Dorris moved to Sumner County, TN from Caswell County, NC. This is based on documentation for William Dorris' pension. In the papers, Soloman Brown, Eleanor's brother attests to the fact that Williamd and Eleanor Dorris moved to Tennessee in 1802.
It is believed that Leonard Brown came to Tennessee with his daughter and son-in-law.

(000001-00001) He signed a will on 8 Aug 1828 in Sumner Co., Tennessee. Pobated Nov. 1833. He appeared in the census in 1830 in Sumner Co., Tennessee. Leonard appears to be living with his son Robert Brown in the 1830 census. Robert has a male 81-90 years of age in his household. There is no separate listing for Leonard Brown. He died in Nov 1833 in Sumner Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Sumner Co., Tennessee. He has Ancestral File Number 21QQ-GT. He was a farmer. Early records have been found in Orange County, Virginia. It seems he lived there prior to going to North Carolina and then on to Tennessee.

1833. He served in the Blackhawk War. Was 65 years old and living next door
to his son Nathaniel in 1850, Claiborne Parish, LA. This would make his birth
date 1885 instead of 1876. Mrs. Rimmer says, "Tradition says the Browns came
from Scotland, maybe spelled Braun. They came over on the same ship as Andrew
