Hi, I don't believe that Rev. Henry Sandys, supposedly the father of
Capt. James Sands, came to Boston.

Henry Sand(y)s, was admitted to the Church of Boston, 10/30/1638, with
wife Sybil. I think this is James' brother Henry.

My info says that Rev. Henry d. in 1626, in Suffolk, Eng. and son Henry
came to Boston in 1636.

" The Lutheran church known as Mertz church or the
church on Bieber Creek was organized in 1747 by the
Rev. Tobias Wagner. The original church was built on
land donated by Henry Mertz. A second church was
built in 1764 and a third in 1798, when members included
Philip Mertz, Conrad Ernst, George Dry, Dr. Dewald Bieber,
Jacob Bieber, Peter Fisher, Jacob Heinrich, and Peter Weida.
Despite extensive renovations to this church in 1859 and a
new steeple added in 1879, a new church was built in 1915.

"The church has been exclusively Lutheran since its
inception. Pastors have included Wagner, J.H. Schaum,
Daniel Lehman, Henry Muhlenberger Jr., C.F. Wildbahn,
John Knoske, Isaac Roeller, and B.E. Kramlich.

Church records-including baptisms from 1762-1810,
marriages 1749-1767 and an incomplete list of burials
stretching from 1763 to 1880 can be found in the BCGS
library. Pastoral registers of Roeller and Kramlich also
contain much information about members of this
congregation; they can be found at the Historical Society
